This microphone delivers clear, transparent sound with plenty of headroom. For many years it has been the headband microphone of choice for Broadway theatres and many auditoriums and lecture halls. This is due to its pristine sound and ruggedness.
The headband design is unique. The boom can be removed from the headband and reattached to either the left or right side. This makes it impervious to moisture, which is often a problem in theatres. The microphone is equipped with a double venting system and a drop stop in the boom.
The materials used in the microphone itself are also waterproof. These design elements make it almost impossible for the microphone to fail due to moisture. The sensitivity of the microphone is 6 mV/Pa. This matches the level of the human voice to the general input sensitivity of most wireless transmitters. With the appropriate power supply, the microphone can handle very high sound pressure levels of up to 144 dB SPL before distorting.
A little about Omnis
An omnidirectional microphone has an angle-independent sensitivity - it picks up sound equally from all directions. This gives a very natural and realistic sound compared to a cardioid microphone. Omnidirectional microphones are often used to pick up room ambience and large sound sources such as choirs.
Unfortunately, omnidirectional microphones can also produce a lot of feedback in live situations due to their directional pattern. Nevertheless, we recommend that you try a DPA omnidirectional microphone first, as its flat frequency response when used close to the sound source makes it a versatile addition to your audio toolbox. It often delivers a more natural sound, can handle extremely high sound pressure levels (SPL), has no proximity effect and is less sensitive to wind, pops and handling noise.
