PROPER MICROPHONE HYGIENE
KEEP YOUR MICROPHONES CLEAN AND STERILE
Most of the time, microphones are used in situations where germs can spread easily. This may be especially the case in theater and broadcast situations with many different users using microphones held or placed close to the mouth. In all situations, cleaning your microphones regularly is a good idea for everyone.
MINIATURE & SUBMINIATURE LAVALIERS AND HEADSETS
Alternatively, allow the microphone to dry, only after using it, for 72 hours or place it in an oven at 60 ° C (140 ° F) for 30 minutes (note that this will slightly age the microphone). This process will not clean the microphone, but will allow time for germs to die.
Headphones, clips, booms, grids and adapters can be cleaned on their surface with a cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol.
HANDHELD AND PENCIL MICROPHONES
These microphones can be cleaned on their surface with a cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
Alternatively, allow the microphone to dry after using it, for 72 hours or place it in an oven at 60 ° C (140 ° F) for 30 minutes (note that this will slightly age the microphone). This process will not clean the microphone, but will allow time for germs to die.
CABLES
Cables cannot tolerate alcohol, but coconut oil is known for its disinfecting properties and can be used instead. Otherwise, we recommend gently washing them with warm soapy water or rubbing them with olive oil.
FOAM WINDSCREENS
Foam windshields for miniatures and headsets, as well as larger microphones, can be removed and washed with warm soapy water.
Alternatively, they can be removed and allowed to dry by themselves for 72 hours. This process will not clean the foam windshield, but it will give germs time to die.
